North Devon Beach Guide

One of the main reasons so many people come to visit North Devon is its stunning and picturesque coastline and beaches. In this article we are going to look at some of the best beaches for you to pay a visit to on your North Devon holiday.
Woolacombe Beach

One of the most popular beaches in North Devon, Woolacombe beach makes up most of the 3 miles of beach between Baggy Point and Morte Point. The beach is great for both families and water sports fans, and its cleanliness and high quality have lead to it winning numerous awards. The beach is located at the small tourist hot spot of Woolacombe, which means that many visitors to the beach stay at the local accommodation.

Saunton Sands

Saunton beach is along a flatter stretch of land, so people find that the waves are calmer. This is ideal for holiday makers who want to relax and not so much surfers looking for good waves. Its large, open area means that many kite surfers come to the beach and it is best not to lay in their path.
The beach has good facilities in the form of a bar, café, shop and hiring facilities.

Croyde Beach

Just South of Woolacombe is Croyde Bay. World famous for its beach break waves, Croyde beach is very popular with surfers. Every year the surfing festival Oceanfest is held in Croyde, which attracts hundreds of locals and tourists.
Tourists will find the beach a great place to visit, but beginner surfers should probably stay out of the water as the fast, hollow and heavy waves may prove too much of a challenge.
The small village of Croyde has plenty of shops and places to eat that will cater for the beach visitors.

Putsborough Sands

Also close by to Woolacombe is Putsborough Sands. After the short drive south through some winding, narrow lanes you will have access to this great quiet beach. You will find that this beach will be slightly quieter than Woolacombe beach in the peak season, but families should be warned that the beach is not patrolled like a lot of the others are.
So whether you are looking for a great beach to sunbathe on or one to partake in water sports, the North Devon coast line has it all.
